Safety on Kodebloc

How we check websites before they go online, how to report one, and what happens next.

Anyone can open a website made with Kodebloc, so we work to keep those websites safe for the people who visit them. This page explains what we check, how you can report a website, the rules every website must follow, and how to contact us.

Every website is checked before it goes online

Each time someone publishes a website, or updates one that is already online, Kodebloc checks it first. We look for pages that could trick visitors. For example:

  • A fake sign-in page made to look like another company's.
  • A form that asks visitors for passwords or card details.
  • A page that quietly sends visitors somewhere else.

If the check finds a problem, the website doesn't go online. The person publishing sees a message that explains what to change. If the website was already online, the live version stays as it was until the problem is fixed.

Checks can make mistakes. A real website can sometimes look like a problem by accident. If you think that happened to you, the message tells you to contact us, and a person will take a look. Use the contact page.

Forms keep secrets out

Many websites have a contact form so visitors can send a message. On a published Kodebloc website, forms can't collect passwords, card numbers or ID numbers. Fields like these are left out and never saved. To fight spam, we use a visitor's internet address for a short time only.

Report a website

If a Kodebloc website looks like a scam, copies a real business, or breaks the rules below, please tell us. It only takes a minute.

  1. On the website, find the thin bar across the top that says “Made with Kodebloc”.
  2. Click Report, next to the small flag. Our contact form opens with Report a website already chosen. It shows the address of the website you are reporting.
  3. In the box “What's wrong with this website?”, tell us what you saw. Be as clear as you can, like “This page pretends to be my bank and asks for my password.”
  4. Fill in Your email so we can reply, and click Send message.

You can also report a website from the contact page directly. Paste the website's link and tell us what is wrong with it.

What happens after a report

  • Someone at Kodebloc looks at it. We check the website and decide whether it breaks our rules. We may reply by email if we need to know more.
  • Several reports can take a website offline. When several different visitors report the same website, it can go offline before we have looked at it. This protects visitors while we check.
  • The owner is told. The owner sees a message that visitors reported their website, so it is offline while we check it. They can't publish again until we have finished.
  • Nothing is deleted while we check. The owner's project stays in their account. If the website is fine, it can go back online.
  • We can remove websites that break the rules. Our terms let us take any website offline or remove it.

The rules for websites

These rules come from our Terms of Service. A website published with Kodebloc must not:

  • Break the law, or use someone else's work or rights without permission.
  • Pretend to be a real person, business or organization, or pose as their official page.
  • Try to get people's passwords or payment details, or trick visitors in any other way.
  • Spread harmful software or attack visitors' browsers.
  • Show sexual content, bully or harass anyone, or encourage violence or self-harm.
  • Send spam, or be used to run some other service.

Everyone using Kodebloc also agrees not to harass others, not to pretend to be someone else, and not to collect other people's personal information without their permission.

Keep yourself safe

A published website is public. Anyone who has the link can open it, even if it isn't shown in the community gallery. Before you publish:

  • Leave out your home address, your phone number, your school's name and anything you would not tell a stranger.
  • Don't put photos of friends or classmates on a website without asking them first.
  • Remember that the community gallery shows the name on your account next to your website. Untick Show in the community gallery if you don't want that. See Share your website.

You can take any of your websites offline at any time. See Update or take down a live website.

Age rules

  • You must be at least 13 years old to create a Kodebloc account.
  • If you are under 18, you need permission from a parent or guardian to use Kodebloc.
  • Kodebloc is meant for people aged 13 and older. If you are a parent and think your child under 13 has given us information, contact us and we will remove it.

Teachers working with younger students can find ideas on the page for teachers.

Delete your account

You can delete your Kodebloc account whenever you want. There are two ways:

  • Yourself, right away. Sign in and go to Delete your account. This deletes your account, your profile, your projects, your form messages and your progress in the app. All your websites go offline. Your website addresses stay reserved, so nobody else can put a different website at a link you shared.
  • By asking us. If you can't sign in, send a request with the contact form. We email you to make sure the request is really from you. Then we delete your account within 30 days.
