About the The Westbrook Echo template

A one-page website for a high school newspaper, laid out like a real broadsheet front page. Newsprint, ink and press red with a fat display serif give it the feel of a printed paper, and the photos show school places and objects rather than students' faces.

The site opens with a proper masthead: ears for Vol. 53, No. 4 and Spring 2027, a motto in the middle, The Westbrook Echo set large in a heavy display serif and double rules above a strapline that reads The student newspaper since 1974. The lead story, Library will stay open until 6pm after a 912-signature petition, runs with a deck, a byline, a grayscale library photo with a caption and two columns of body text with a red drop cap and a continued on page 3 line. A double-ruled In this issue box lists six stories with page numbers, followed by a smaller story about the salad bar returning after a 640-student survey and a By the numbers strip.

The opinion section carries a column, Keep the lockers. All of them., with an initials badge for the writer, a locker photo, a red-ruled pull quote and two letters to the editor. Sports turns black for a Herons scoreboard table of seven spring results with date, sport, opponent, score and result, beside a bleachers photo and a lacrosse brief. Who makes the Echo explains the student-run paper and its 1,200 copies, with a classic staff box naming the editor-in-chief, six section editors and the faculty adviser. Join the paper gives three numbered steps and meeting times in Room 214, and Send us a story tip asks for an optional name and email, who you are, what it is about, the tip and whether a reporter can follow up.

To make it yours, rename the paper and school, update the volume, issue and staff, then swap in this term's stories and scores. The broadsheet layout also works for a school magazine, a class newsletter, a journalism course, a neighborhood bulletin or a club zine.
