Kitsilano, Vancouver

Slow down.
Breathe a little
deeper.

A small, light-filled studio two blocks from Kits Beach. Unhurried classes, kind teachers, and never more than eighteen mats in the room.

Our philosophy

A practice, not a performance.

We opened Stillwater for people who felt a little lost in big, loud studios. Here the music is low, the lights are warm and nobody is keeping score. You come as you are, and you leave a bit softer than you arrived.

01
Breath before shape
The pose matters less than how you breathe in it. We cue the breath first, every class.
02
Every body, every day
Blocks, bolsters and blankets are part of the practice, not a crutch. Options are offered in every pose.
03
Small rooms, real names
Eighteen mats at most, so your teacher knows your name and remembers your sore shoulder.

Classes

Five ways to practise

Not sure where to start? Beginners and Slow flow are gentle doorways. Tell us at the desk and we will set you up with props.

Slow flow

Linked movement at half speed, with long holds and time to notice. Warm, steady and grounding. Our most loved class.

All levels 60 min
Vinyasa

A breath-led, flowing class that builds heat, strength and balance. Expect sun salutations, arm balances to play with and a long savasana.

Intermediate 60 min
Yin

Quiet, floor-based poses held for three to five minutes to release deep tissue. Candlelit in the evenings. Bring socks.

All levels 75 min
Prenatal

Gentle strength, hip and back care, and breathing for birth, taught by a certified prenatal teacher. Safe from your second trimester onward.

Second trimester on 60 min
Beginners

The basics, slowly and clearly: how to stand, breathe and use props. Each class stands alone, so you can start any week.

Teachers

The people who hold the room

Three teachers, over thirty years of practice between them, and a shared belief that the best class is the one you actually come back to.

Maeve Donnelly

Founder, Slow flow and Yin

Maeve trained in Dublin and Mysore before settling in Kitsilano. She teaches like she talks: warmly, slowly and with a fair bit of laughing.

Mei Santos

Prenatal and Beginners

A registered prenatal teacher and former physiotherapy assistant, Mei is the one to ask about knees, backs and that thing your hip does.

Callum Reid

Vinyasa

A former rower from North Vancouver, Callum builds strong, flowing classes with clever sequencing and the best playlists on the West Side.

I came for my back and stayed for the quiet. It is the only hour in my week when nobody needs anything from me, and Maeve somehow remembers every niggle I have ever mentioned.
